In a recent report, Maisfutebol confirmed CNN Portugal‘s claims that Aston Villa are locked in a three-way battle for Porto winger Otavio. It has been revealed that the Villans would have to compete with Liverpool and Leeds United in the race to land the Brazil-born sensation this summer.
Otavio’s Impressive Run Of Form At The Estádio do Dragão
The 27-year-old had a fruitful campaign in Portugal after he was responsible for performing at a high level while acting as a key member of Porto’s first XI. Otavio registered five goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances for the Portuguese club last season across all competitions.
The Portugal international performed well to average 3.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.6 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Liga Portugal. He even took care of possession well in the opponent’s half, based on his pass success rate of 79.3% in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Otavio A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard?
Otavio is a hard-working wide player who can make a few intelligent runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He excels at creating space for himself to get some shots in on-target. Otavio is versatile enough to operate as a winger on either flank or act as an attacking midfielder in the opposition half if needed.
The Portuguese sensation can even engineer plenty of inviting chances for others around him in the attacking third of the field. Therefore, he will be an excellent signing for the Villans if Steven Gerrard can devise a way to bring him to England during this summer transfer window.
At 27, Otavio is entering his prime and would give his best years to the Villans which makes him a decent choice for the West Midlands club this summer.
We can expect the Porto star to add more firepower and creativity to Aston Villa’s attack. Therefore, Gerrard would be wise to try everything in his power to acquire his services in this off-season as he could help the Villans push for a European spot in Premier League over the next few years.
