In a recent report, The Mirror stated that Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is close to joining Brighton and Hove Albion on loan this summer. It has been mentioned that the Gunners left-back is in talks to sign for the Seagulls on a loan deal in this off-season.
Tavares’ Season Of Mixed Emotions In English Football
Tavares had an up and down season at North London in the previous campaign as he struggled to be productive in the opposition half. The 22-year-old scored one goal and provided two assists in 27 matches for Arsenal in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The Portugal Under-21 international proved himself to be a solid performer at the back based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 1.4 clearances, 1.0 shots and 0.8 dribbles per game in Premier League football.
He was even accurate when distributing possession from the left flank, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.1% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Arsenal Defender Nuno Tavares Close To Joining Brighton On Loan: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Tavares is a solid tackler and can clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. He can make a few clever runs with the ball down the left flank and can shoot the ball well from long range.
The Portuguese full-back is not guaranteed a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium next season. Therefore, it is only logical for the player to go out on loan in search of more game time over the next 12 months.
At 22, Tavares might still have a promising future at Arsenal if he can come back from his loan spell as a much-improved version of himself next summer. His current contract with the North London club will run out in the summer of 2025, so there is still plenty of time for the player to turn his career around for the better in England.
A loan move to Brighton could be a good move for both Tavares and Arsenal. Mikel Arteta should think about assessing the Portuguese talent’s future when he comes back from his loan spell at the end of next season.
