In a recent report, TuttoJuve stated that Arsenal have begun discussions to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo this summer. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are eyeing a move for the Brazilian midfield ace.
Melo’s Unimpressive Form At The Allianz Stadium Last Season
Melo endured a difficult campaign at Turin as he struggled to be consistent with his performances at the centre of Juve’s midfield. The Brazil international made 31 appearances for the Italian outfit last season, securing just one assist in the process across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old failed to impress at the centre of the park after he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.4 interceptions, 0.4 clearances and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. Still, he was tidy with his ball distribution as he completed 89.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Head Coach Mikel Arteta Move In For Melo This Summer?
Melo can get stuck in with some solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He is an accurate passer of the ball and can engineer a few meaningful chances for his teammates in the opposition half. Melo mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if needed.
Hence, the Brazilian sensation will be a good fit for Mikel Arteta‘s style of play as long as the Arsenal boss is willing to offer him regular playing chances in the coming seasons.
Melo is lacking confidence at the moment, so a change of scenery could do his confidence a world of good. The Gunners can also benefit from recruiting someone of the Brazilian’s experience as he will add more energy and dynamism to their midfield. At 25, the Serie A talent has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for Arteta to consider in this off-season.
Melo could even go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Fabio Viera and Thomas Partey at the Emirates Stadium in the future. Thus, Arsenal should focus on moving in for the Juventus midfield ace before the end of this summer transfer window.
