In a recent report, Sport provided an update on Barcelona and their pursuit of Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski. It is believed that the Catalan giants are set to resume talks with the Bavarian outfit next week over a potential move for the Polish striker this summer.
Lewandowski’s Sensational Goal-Scoring Record At Munich Last Season
Lewandowski continued to bang in goals for fun at the Allianz Arena last season when he produced several match-winning displays as the focal point of Bayern’s attack. The experienced frontman did well to find the back of the net 50 times and secure seven assists in 46 matches for the German club in the previous campaign in all competitions.
The 132-time Poland international led the line well by averaging 4.7 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He was also tidy with his link-up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 77.4% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Will Lewandowski Be A Dream Signing For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Lewandowski remains an unforgiving finisher on the attacking end of the field. He excels at creating space for himself to get a few strikes on target.
The Poland international can even create some promising chances for his teammates inside the opponent’s penalty box. He is a good header of the ball as well and can retain possession well when under pressure deep inside the opposition half.
Lewandowski will be an excellent, short-term acquisition for Barca as he will bring plenty of goals to Xavi‘s frontline. As good as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay can be at the Nou Camp, Lewandowski would be an upgrade over either of them due to his reliability in terms of goal-scoring in the final third.
Therefore, Lewandowski will be a dream signing for the Catalan club this summer. However, at 34, he won’t be a long-term fix to Barcelona’s goal-scoring problems which Xavi would still need to address in the future.
