According to a recent report from Express, Tottenham Hotspur have considered testing Inter Milan’s resolve by offering a mega-bid worth up to a staggering £77million for their star striker Lautaro Martinez.
It has also been mentioned that Spurs boss Antonio Conte is adamant about bringing the forward aboard as he focuses on revamping the squad ahead of the next season.
Martinez’s Impressive Run Of Form For Everton This Season
The 24-year-old has been a consistent performer at San Siro as he has been responsible for producing some influential displays for Inter in the final third. Martinez has featured in 49 matches for the Italian outfit this season, scoring 21 goals and creating three assists across all competitions.
The Bahia Blanca-born talent has shown his class as he has been a key player in the frontline after averaging 3.4 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 74.7% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Why Does Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte Want Him Aboard?
Martinez has a solid presence in the attacking end of the field. He excels at creating space for himself using his pace and quickness. The Inter forward is a prolific finisher in the opposition’s penalty box. Furthermore, he doesn’t mind taking a shot at the goal from a distance.
The Argentine forward is primarily a striker but can also play in an advanced attacking midfield position if required. This makes Martinez a good fit for Conte as the manager is looking to provide enough support to Harry Kane who’s undoubtedly irreplaceable in the number 9 position. The addition of Inter’s talismanic striker would no doubt add more goals and bring a lot of balance to their attack. However, the Argentina international will have to work on his link-up play to make an impact in the English top-flight football.
The Lilywhites are showing keen interest due to Conte’s former association with the centre-forward back in Inter Milan. Martinez was a key player in his Serie A title-winning side, and Conte would like to continue their story here in North London. However, the Italian outfit are reluctant at letting their most prized asset exit San Siro, and it would be tough to make them budge.
