In a recent print edition, La Gazzetta Dello Sport mentioned that Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio is on the radar of AC Milan this summer. It is understood that the Serie A champions are eyeing a move to sign the Spaniard from Los Blancos during this summer transfer window.
Asensio’s Limited Role In The Spanish Capital Last Season
Asensio played a sporadic role for the Madrid giants last season but still managed to contribute in some meaningful ways in the final third. The 26-year-old scored 12 times and picked up two assists in 42 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Spanish talent has done well to average 2.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles in La Liga football. He was even careful when distributing the ball in the final third after making 87.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Let Asensio Go This Summer?
Asensio is a technically gifted footballer who can complete some decent dribbles out on the flanks. He has got the vision to play a decisive pass in the attacking end of the field and can strike the ball purely and with power from long range. Asensio is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play on the left wing or as an attacking midfielder if needed.
The Spanish sensation has mostly served as a decent squad player for Carlo Ancelotti‘s side over the past ten months. However, Asensio needs to opt for a permanent change of scenery this summer if he wants to secure more playing opportunities in the future.
Therefore, it is only logical for Los Blancos to let him go for a cut-price fee in this off-season. The Madrid giants should rather use the fee generated from his potential sale to bolster other areas of their squad.
With just a year left to run in his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, it makes sense for both the player and the Madrid club to part ways with each other before the start of the new campaign.
