In a recent report, Mirror stated that Manchester United midfielder Donny Van De Beek wants to exit Old Trafford this summer. It is being mentioned that the Dutchman’s last few seasons with the Red Devils have convinced him to move away. The report also claims that Van De Beek is interested in joining AS Roma and would be comfortable playing under former United boss Jose Mourinho.
Van De Beek’s Difficult Campaign For Everton
The 25-year-old was loaned to Everton this January following two difficult seasons with the Red Devils. He has featured in 7 premier league matches for the Toffees, finding the back of the net once in the second half of his campaign.
He has failed to establish himself as a regular in the central areas of the pitch for either of the teams after averaging 0.5 shots, 0.4 key passes, 0.4 dribbles, 1.4 tackles and 0.7 interceptions in the Premier League. However, he has been impressive in distributing the ball, completing 82.7% of his attempted passes in English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Cash In On Him?
Donny Van De Beek is a decent tackler of the ball. He can contribute heavily in the defensive end of the field. The defensive midfielder doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle and clearing his lines when he senses danger from the opposition. He can chip in with his fair share of goals and also create opportunities for his teammates in the attacking third.
At 25, he can still work on his game and improve further to play at a high level and reach the peak of his potential. At this point of his career, he is definitely looking at regular playtime. Ten Hag’s arrival at the Old Trafford could have proven beneficial for the Nederlands international but that does not seem to be convincing enough even though he would be reunited with his former manager.
A move away to join Jose Mourinho at AS Roma seems to be appealing to the Dutchman, although the gaffer would certainly step up his efforts in convincing him to stay for the next season. The former Ajax manager should be able to do that if he promises regular game time and brings Frenkie De jong to see a beautiful partnership with him this summer.
