In a recent report, The Mirror mentioned that Manchester City speedster Raheem Sterling could leave next summer. It is believed that the Man City star is considering running out his contract so that he can select his new club at the end of next season.
Sterling’s Impressive Form At The Etihad Stadium
Sterling has enjoyed a decent campaign in Manchester as he managed to put in a series of productive performances for Pep Guardiola’s side in the final third which helped Man City win the Premier League title. The 27-year-old has registered 17 goals and nine assists in 47 matches for Man City this season in all competitions.
The Kingston-born talent has been a consistent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.9 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 85.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
What Should Be Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola’s Play With Regards To Sterling’s Future?
Sterling can use his quickness and agility to get in behind the opposition backline and can drive to the byline to deliver a few inviting crosses into the danger area. The England international can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal but needs to be more decisive in the attacking end of the field.
The former Liverpool talent can still play an influential role at the Etihad Stadium if Man City decide to retain his services beyond this summer. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot in Pep Guardiola’s first XI.
However, Sterling’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, so the Mancunian outfit would have no choice but to cash in on him if they receive a fair offer for his services. Guardiola cannot afford to offer him regular game time at Manchester next season, so the player would be better off opting for a change of scenery during this summer transfer period in search of greener pastures.
