In a recent report, Mirror stated that Brighton’s left-back Marc Cucurella has caught the eye of Manchester City, emerging as a surprise target ahead of the next season. It has also been mentioned that the Sky Blues could throw a £30m bid for the Spanish defender to bring him to Etihad.
Cucurella’s Impressive Campaign With Brighton & Hove Albion
The 23-year-old’s move from Getafe to Brighton has been an enormous success. He has lived up to expectations and established himself as one of the key players in Brighton’s starting XI. He has managed to score 1 goal and create two assists over 38 appearances across all fronts.
The U-23 capped Spaniard has performed exceptionally based on his averages of 0.5 shots, 0.8 dribbles, 1.2 key passes, 2.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game in the Premier League.
He has also been tidy while distributing the ball, completing 82% of his attempted passes in English top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
How Does Cucurella Fit Into Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City?
Cucurella can use his pace to make some decent runs with the ball down the left flank. The youngster has adapted to the Premier League and has performed consistently with consecutive impressive displays in the backline. He can even chip in by creating opportunities in the final third with his vision and impressive ball distribution.
He is primarily a left-back but remains versatile enough to fill in as a left-sided wide player or defensive midfielder when required. Thus, he would be a terrific signing for Mancunian Giants this summer as they hope to sign a talented full-back to strengthen the defence and add more depth to the squad.
He will undoubtedly enhance the quality of Pep Guardiola’s squad. At 23, he has enough room for improvement and could develop himself to play at a high level. He would be a brilliant option for the Etihad club, with Oleksandr Zinchenko rumoured to move away and Manchester City preparing to bring home the Champions League trophy next season.
