In a recent report, La Porteria claimed that Liverpool are showing interest in recruiting Barcelona midfielder Gavi this summer. It is believed that the Reds are one of two clubs hoping to sign the Spain international, who favours renewing his contract and staying at the Nou Camp.
Gavi’s Impressive Rise In Spanish Football
Gavi enjoyed an impressive campaign at Catalonia as he managed to break into Xavi’s starting XI. He even managed to produce some eye-catching displays to help Barca to a strong second-place finish in La Liga.
The 17-year-old found the back of the net on two occasions and grabbed six assists in 34 league matches for the Catalan club last season. The Spanish prospect has caught the eye by averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.9 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 89.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Gavi A Good Option For Liverpool?
Gavi is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make some important interceptions at the centre of the park. He is proficient at completing a few exciting dribbles with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. Gavi has mainly featured as a box-to-box midfielder but can even play in the number position or as a left-sided wide player if needed.
The nine-time Spain international has even added a handful of goals and assists to his game over the past ten months. Thus, he will be an excellent signing for the Reds if they can find a way to get him on board in this off-season.
At 17, Gavi is a generational talent who could grow into a future superstar at Anfield under the expert stewardship of Jurgen Klopp. The Barca whizkid will undoubtedly strengthen Liverpool’s midfield and would be a brilliant option for the Merseyside outfit to consider for the long run.
However, if the Spaniard has his heart stay on extending his stay at the Nou Camp, Klopp would find it difficult to lure him to the red half of Merseyside during this summer transfer period.
