In a recent report, The Daily Mirror revealed that Liverpool are set to firm up their interest in FC Porto winger Otavio this summer. It is believed that the Portuguese outfit expect the Reds to launch an offer of around £34m for their talented wide player this week.
Otavio’s Impressive Run Of Form In Portuguese Football Last Season
Otavio had a productive campaign at the Estádio do Dragão last season when he produced a series of influential performances on the right side of Porto’s attack. The seven-time Portugal international made 49 appearances for the Portuguese giants in the previous campaign, netting five goals and grabbing 14 assists on all fronts.
The 27-year-old managed to influence the game in both halves based on his average of 3.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.6 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Liga Portugal. He even distributed the ball relatively well after making 79.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Otavio A Good Choice For Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp?
Otavio is a tough-tackling wide player who can make some important interceptions for his team. However, the Brazil-born talent is more renowned for his offensive skill set as he has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third. Otavio is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also play as a left-winger or assume the duties of an attacking midfielder if required.
The Portugal international can strike the ball well from long range and can chip in by scoring and creating a lot of goals for his side. However, only time will tell whether he can replicate his good form in Premier League football if the Reds manage to get him on board this summer.
Otavio will no doubt add more goals and creativity to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp‘s attack and would be a great fit for the German head coach’s style of playing counter-pressing football. With all things considered, the Porto star will be an excellent choice for the Merseyside outfit as he could help bring even more success to Anfield in the coming seasons.
