In a recent report, Moroccan TV station 2M revealed that Stade Rennais defender Nayef Aguerd is set to undergo his medical with West Ham United soon. It is understood that the Morocco international will have his medical with the Hammers after he returns from his international duty.
Aguerd’s Impressive Run Of Form At Roazhon Park
The 26-year-old experienced a solid campaign in French football after putting in a run of dominant displays for Rennes on the defensive third of the pitch. Aguerd registered four goals and three assists in 40 matches for the French club last season across all fronts.
The Kenitra-born talent has caught the eye by averaging 0.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 4.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been careful with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 89% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Aguerd A Decent Signing For West Ham United Head Coach David Moyes?
Aguerd can get stuck in some crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition attackers. He can times his challenges well to secure the ball back inside his half and is proficient at putting his strong 1.88m frame to block some goal-bound shots from the opposition. The Moroccan sensation doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and can be a threat at the other end of the field as well.
Aguerd is primarily a central defender but is even versatile enough to fill in as a left-back if his manager needs him to do so. He will no doubt add more bite and steel to West Ham boss David Moyes‘ defensive department.
At 26, Aguerd has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good signing for the East London giants to sign during this summer transfer window. He would serve as a perfect replacement for Angelo Ogbonna, who is set to become a free agent at the end of this month, at the London Stadium. The 19-time Morocco international could even help the Hammers stay competitive across all competitions in the coming seasons.
