Express has reportedly confirmed that Everton are targeting Burnley defender James Tarkowski this summer. It has also been mentioned that the Toffees remain confident about getting his signature as Tarkowski’s contract expires at the end of this month and he will be looking to move away from a relegated team ahead of the next season.
Tarkowski’s Impressive Numbers This Season
The 29-year-old has been a key player for Burnley even though they were struggling in the bottom half throughout the season. He has managed to score one goal and create two assists in over 36 appearances across all competitions.
The English defender has given a good account of himself at the backline after averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.7 blocks and 5.2 clearances per game in the Premier League. However, he remains below average with his ball distribution after only completing 69.3% of his attempted passes in English first-division football (stats via whoscored).
Should Everton Boss Frank Lampard Bring Him To Goodison Park This Summer?
James Tarkowski can do well to stop the opposition in their tracks with timely tackles and some well-calculated interceptions. He can comfortably put his foot into a tackle and does not mind clearing the danger when the opposition is on the attack.
However, he needs to take care of the ball better and increase his standards of distributing possession if he wants to play at a high level. At 29, his prime years are far from over and he still has a couple of years left in him. He could add more depth to the Toffees’ backline and also bring more competition to Goodison Park.
After narrowly escaping relegation and ending this season disappointingly, Frank Lampard remains keen on climbing the Premier League table. Tarkowski’s experience would be a good addition to the squad as they look to get back to the top next season.
