In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are planning to submit their final offer for Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski. It is understood that both Barca and Bayern are set to start negotiations next week over a potential deal which should see the Poland international seal a move to the Nou Camp this summer.
Lewandowski’s Impressive Form At The Allianz Arena Last Season
Lewandowski had another excellent campaign in Munich as he continued to score goals at the high rate in German football. The experienced frontman featured in 46 matches for the German club last season, netting 50 goals and grabbing seven assists in all competitions.
The Polish centre-forward led the line well for Bayern by averaging 4.7 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in Bundesliga.
He was even accurate when linking up play in the final third after he made 77.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
Is Lewandowski A Dream Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Lewandowski has a wealth of experience under his belt and is a proven winner at the highest level. He has done really well to bang in goals for fun in the Bundesliga and can still make a few intelligent runs with the ball in the final third.
The Polish striker can set up some inviting chances for others around him but has lost a yard of pace from his game as father time is slowly catching up with him.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting a forward of Lewandowski’s quality. Therefore, Barca boss Xavi would be wise to try everything in his power to bring him to the Nou Camp in this off-season.
The Polish marksman will be a dream, short-term option for the Catalan outfit to pursue this summer as he would instantly make them title contenders in La Liga and might even help them challenge for the UEFA Champions League over the next couple of seasons.
