In a recent report, Birmingham Mail revealed that Aston Villa are set to focus their attention on Rangers defender Calvin Bassey. It has been mentioned that the Villans are eyeing a new left-back following the permanent departure of Matt Targett and has identified the Nigerian talent as an option for this summer transfer window.

Bassey’s Decent Form In Scottish Football Last Season

Bassey had a solid campaign at the Ibrox Stadium as he managed to perform at a high level on the left side of Rangers’ defence. The 22-year-old took part in 50 matches for the Scottish club last season, picking up six assists in the process across various competitions.

The three-time Nigeria international has performed well to average 1.5 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.2 clearances and 0.8 key passes per game in the Scottish Premiership. The former Leicester City sensation has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 86.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Bassey is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive third of the field.
