In a recent report, Cuatro revealed that Arsenal are hoping to land Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio this summer. It has been stated that the Gunners are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Spanish playmaker ahead of the new campaign.
Asensio’s Campaign Of Mixed Emotions At The Bernabeu
Asensio played a sporadic role for Los Blancos recently but managed to impress at times with his performances last season. The 26-year-old found the back of the net 12 times and earned two assists in 42 matches for the Spanish giants in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Spaniard performed well to average 2.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates after completing 87.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will Asensio Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Team?
Asensio can be a decent playmaker in the final third when he is playing regularly on the pitch. He can strike the ball purely and with venom which makes him a threat from long range.
The Spanish sensation can make a few intelligent runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty box but needs to find a way to be more consistent in front of goal. He usually plays as a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a left-winger or act as an attacking midfielder down the middle if needed.
We can expect Asensio to add more quality and depth to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s attack. He is a technically gifted footballer who won’t have any trouble settling into Arteta’s style of play at the Emirates Stadium. However, there are some question marks over whether Asensio can make a smooth transition to life in England.
Therefore, the Gunners can benefit from orchestrating a move to bring the Real Madrid playmaker to the English capital before the end of this transfer window. At 26, Asensio’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a decent option for the London giants to consider in this off-season.
