West Ham United entertained Arsenal at the London Stadium earlier today as they looked to earn a win in front of their home fans. The Hammers made a solid start to the contest but conceded the opening goal in the 38th minute when Rob Holding scored with a good header. However, Jarrod Bowen equalised for the home side just seven minutes later with a deflected strike. Both London clubs had to settle for a 1-1 draw at half-time.
David Moyes’ men made a poor start to the second half and conceded their second goal in the 54th minute when Gabriel scored with his header. The Hammers failed to come up with a response and crashed to a narrow 2-1 defeat in the London derby.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player fared during the match against the Gunners.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 7/10
The Polish keeper made a few good saves but should have done better to prevent Gabriel’s goal.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 6.5/10
He was solid at the back and had a couple of bright moments down the right flank. He ended the game with an assist to his name.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 6.5/10
Zouma made some crucial clearances but failed to prevent Arsenal from scoring twice during the 90 minutes.
CB: Aaron Cresswell – 6/10
He earned the ball back twice but struggled to keep the opposition attackers quiet.
LB: Ryan Fredericks – 6/10
Fredericks made two important interceptions and was accurate with his passing. However, he failed to influence the game in the Arsenal half.
CM: Mark Noble – 6.5/10
The veteran midfielder struggled to provide enough protection for his teammates at the back but made two good runs with the ball from midfield.
CM: Declan Rice – 7/10
Rice worked hard to offer decent protection for his backline and was a threat going forward.
RW: Pablo Fornals – 6.5/10
The Spaniard faded in and out of the game but made a couple of decent chances in the final third.
CAM: Manuel Lanzini – 6/10
Lanzini showed some flashes of what he is capable of but was mostly ineffective in the final third.
LW: Said Benrahma – 6/10
He made two good opportunities up top but didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.
ST: Jarrod Bowen – 7/10
Bowen got his name on the scoresheet just before the half-time break. However, he was quiet in the second half.
Substitutes:
ST: Michail Antonio – 6/10
He was hardly a threat in the final third.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 6/10
Soucek added some energy to Moyes’ midfield.
RW: Andriy Yarmolenko – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
