In a recent report, Football.london conveyed that Tottenham Hotspur are showing keen interest in Braga defender David Carmo. It is believed that Spurs are planning to move in for the centre-back this summer.
The report also states that the Lilywhites have opened negotiations with the Portuguese side, and they are very likely to meet with stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund.
Carmo’s Decent Run With Braga
David Carmo is having a solid campaign at the Braga Municipal Stadium and has established himself as a key player in the Portuguese side’s defence. The 22-year-old has contributed one goal over 15 appearances across all competitions.
Although the Portuguese midfielder does not have impressive numbers to show in the offence, he has performed spectacularly defensively for Braga this season by averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.3 clearances per 90 minutes across all fronts. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the midfield, playing 5.9 long balls per game and making 80.5% of his attempted passes in Portuguese top-flight football (stats via whoscored)
Is Carmo The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?
The Portuguese defender can time his tackles and looks to retain possession while maintaining his composure. The centre-back is adept at keeping possession of the ball, and he has got the accuracy to distribute the ball efficiently from the backline.
The 1.96m tall defender is a towering, aerial dominant left-sided centre-back who can pose a significant threat to the opposition’s attack and is a strong force to reckon with in defence.
At 22, Carmo still has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good fit for Spurs this summer. The defender will add more tenacity and depth to the Lilywhites’ defence and he will look to provide competition to Ben Davies on the left side of the backline.
Antonio Conte would be wise to go in for David Carmo as the defender could help the squad in the English top-flight over the coming seasons. Furthermore, he will only get better with each season. Thus, Tottenham Hotspur would be wise to make a move to lure Carmo to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when the transfer window commences in the summer.
