Everton endured a lot of misery during this campaign but ended it well by avoiding relegation from the Premier League. The Toffees struggled to give a good account of themselves at both ends of the field which saw their results suffer in the league.
Thus, Frank Lampard will be eager to rebuild his squad this summer so that his men can challenge for a top-half finish and maybe even push for a European spot next season.
Here are three positions Lampard should think about addressing when the transfer window commences next month.
Right-Back
The right-back position has been a problem area for the Toffees with Lampard often opting to play Alex Iwobi as a makeshift right-wing-back. Furthermore, Seamus Coleman is not getting any younger and has got just a year left to run his contract at Merseyside. Therefore, Lampard should move in for a new right-back this summer if he wants to have a strong backline in the upcoming campaign.
Midfield
Everton was over-reliant on Abdoulaye Doucoure’s energy and Andre Gomes’ passing to get a positive result versus Crystal Palace at Goodison Park recently which ensured their top-flight lives for another season. If both of them are fit, Lampard would have a strong midfield next season.
However, the Toffees would be wise to secure the services of a quality box-to-box midfielder to beef up their squad next season as Dele Alli seems to be past his best days while Donny van de Beek is also set to return to his parent club Manchester United.
Forward
Richarlison has blown hot and cold at the Merseyside club all throughout the 2021-22 Premier League campaign. The Brazilian attacker has also had his fair share of disciplinary issues.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin had to go through a tough season at Everton after missing a lot of important games due to a fractured toe. However, he did score a couple of crucial goals to help the Merseysiders secure Premier League safety with a game to spare.
Hence, it is only logical for Lampard to look for a prolific centre-forward this summer as he needs to increase competition for places within his match-day squad.
