According to a recent report from Manchester Evening News, the Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus could exit Manchester City ahead of the next season. It has also been mentioned that Arsenal could follow up with an offer along with Tottenham Hotspur in the competition to sign the striker. Pep Guardiola’s starting XI would feature Erling Haaland, and irregular game time would be an underlying cause for Jesus’ exit.
Jesus’s Impressive Campaign For Manchester City This Season
The 25-year-old has experienced a solid campaign at the Etihad Stadium. He has found the back of the net on 13 occasions and registered nine assists over 41 appearances for the Mancunian giants across all competitions.
The Sao-Paulo born talent has performed consistently at a high level averaging 2.3 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League.
He has been excellent when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his passing success rate of 85.6% in the top tier of English Football (stats via whoscored).
Should Pep Guardiola Cash In On Him Ahead of The Next Season?
Gabriel Jesus can use his quickness and agility to make runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s defence, opening up opportunities for himself in front of the goal. He’s skilful with shielding the ball and drifting into wide positions to create space or make use of his wide array of crossing abilities.
The Brazil international is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill the right-wing position or a wide player in the right-midfield. He contributed as a secondary striker for Man City previously and recently looked at regular game time upon Sergio Aguero’s exit, but that could be cut short upon Haaland’s arrival next season.
It is only logical for Jesus to look for an exit, as at 25, he still has his best days ahead of him. He would definitely look to feature regularly at this point of his career; otherwise, it would certainly hinder his growth.
He would be a decent choice for other Premier League giants to pursue during the summer transfer window. He could look to add more depth and firepower to any club he ends up joining. Pep Guardiola should look to cash in on Jesus as his services could be of use elsewhere since the Sky Blues have brought in Haaland and are also looking to recruit Julian Alvarez in the forward position.
