In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid are set to rival Atletico Madrid for Bayer 04 Leverkusen forward Lucas Alario. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos have set their sights on recruiting the Argentine marksman this summer.
Alario’s Season Of Mixed Emotions At The BayArena
Alario experienced an up and down season with Leverkusen in German football as he struggled to be consistent with his offensive numbers in the final third. Still, the South American talent deserves some praise for netting seven goals in 33 matches for the German club during this campaign in various competitions.
The Tostado-born centre-forward has caught the eye at times in Europe this season based on his average of 1.8 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better up top after completing 75% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Alario Up This Summer?
Alario has shown that he can serve as a decent backup forward in top-flight football. He is a streaky scorer in the attacking third of the field. The Argentine forward has got a great leap in him that allows him to win his fair share of headers in the air. He can even get himself into some dangerous areas in the opponent’s half. However, Alario has to find a way to improve his link-up play in and around the opposition penalty box.
The Leverkusen attacker is good enough to be a suitable replacement for Luka Jovic who has failed to give a good account of himself at Real Madrid so far. We can expect Alario to bring more goals to Carlo Ancelotti‘s frontline and fill in as a good understudy to Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium over the next couple of seasons.
At 29, Alario is currently playing at his peak and has got the experience to become a decent squad player under Ancelotti’s stewardship. Thus, the Madrid giants would be wise to orchestrate a move to lure him to the Spanish capital during this summer transfer window.
