Real Madrid faced off against Liverpool at Stade de Paris earlier tonight as they looked to earn a positive result and win the UEFA Champions League trophy. Los Blancos were solid in the first half and managed to get to the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men had more of a purpose in the second half and finally broke the deadlock in the 59th minute courtesy of Vinicius Junior’s goal. The Spanish giants defended their narrow lead with all they got in the latter stages of the contest and managed to earn a narrow 1-0 win in Paris.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the match against the Reds.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 10/10
The Belgian keeper made a lot of impressive saves to keep the Liverpool attackers frustrated. He singlehandedly won his team the game.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 7/10
He was solid at the back and did enough to keep Luis Diaz quiet. However, he offered very little going forward.
CB: Eder Militao – 7.5/10
Militao was strong in the air and tried to buy a lot of freekicks. He did just about enough to secure the clean sheet.
CB: David Alaba – 7.5/10
Alaba was tidy with his passing and did well to keep the opposition at bay throughout the 90 minutes.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 6.5/10
He was defensively solid and made one good run down the left flank.
CM: Luka Modric – 7/10
Modric controlled the game well at the centre of the park and played some decent through balls to his teammates up top.
CM: Casemiro – 7.5/10
The Brazilian midfielder made a lot of crucial tackles and had a couple of bright moments in the opponent’s half.
CM: Toni Kroos – 7/10
Kroos was good on the ball as usual and made life really difficult for the opposition in midfield.
RW: Federico Valverde – 7.5/10
Valverde had a couple of bright moments in the game and deserves a lot of credit for setting up Vinicius Junior’s winning goal.
ST: Karim Benzema – 7/10
Benzema was a real threat in the final third and had a goal chalked off just before the stroke of half-time. He was mostly quiet in the second.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 8/10
The Brazilian winger caused a few problems for the Liverpool defenders by using his pace to get in behind them. He was there at the right place to net the winning goal in the 59th minute.
