Real Madrid have enjoyed another successful campaign in Spain as they secured the La Liga title quite comfortably last month when they beat Espanyol by a 4-0 scoreline. Despite ending the season with a scoreless draw versus Real Betis, Carlo Ancelotti’s men deserve a lot of credit for being the most consistent team in Spanish football this season.
Real Madrid’s 2021-22 Season Review So Far: Major Talking Points
Los Blancos made a strong start to this campaign following an easy 4-1 victory over Alaves in the league. They continued to dominate their competition in La Liga over the next few years before suffering their first league defeat away at Espanyol back in October.
Ancelotti’s players didn’t let that minor setback get to them and went unbeaten in La Liga until the new year. They were finally defeated again by Getafe at the start of January.
Real Madrid were in complete cruise control in the second half of this campaign and managed to bag the league title before the end of April. However, they were dumped out of the Copa del Rey by Athletic Bilbao which was a minor setback in what has been a successful campaign.
The Madrid giants are also enjoying a dream run in the UEFA Champions League after securing comeback wins over Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City in the knockout stages of the competition. They will now face Liverpool in the Champions League final in Paris later this month.
Real Madrid’s Best Players Of The 2021-22 Campaign
Karim Benzema
Benzema is having one of the best seasons of his experienced career as he has been responsible for banging in 44 goals and securing 15 assists in 45 matches for Los Blancos so far. The Frenchman has been Ancelotti’s best player on the field and deserves to be named their player of the season.
Luka Modric
The experienced midfielder has played an influential role at the heart of Real Madrid‘s midfield. At the age of 36, Modric has continued to be a decent contributor at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga (stats via whoscored).
Vinicius Junior
The Brazilian speedster has become the Robin to Real Madrid’s Batman, Karim Benzema. He has played a perfect supporting role to the French forward all throughout this campaign and has done well to register 21 goals and 20 assists in 51 appearances for the Madrid giants across various competitions.
