Newcastle United locked horns with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier today as they hoped to cause an upset on the road. The Magpies made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 19th minute when Raheem Sterling found the back of the net with a controlled header from close range. Aymeric Laporte doubled Man City’s advantage in the 38th minute as the Magpies went into the half-time break 2-0 down on the scoreline.
Rodri made the points secure for Man City in the 61st minute. Newcastle went on to concede two more times late in the game when both Foden and Sterling scored a goal each for Man City. Eddie Howe’s men ended up crashing to a humiliating 5-0 defeat at Manchester.
Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the match against Man City.
GK: Martin Dubravka – 6/10
He made a few decent saves but won’t be happy after letting in five goals during the 90 minutes.
RB: Emil Krafth – 6/10
Krafth made some important contributions at the back but looked shaky defensively during his time on the field.
CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 6/10
The Newcastle centre-back cleared the danger when he could and was a theat inside the Man City penalty box as well. However, he will be disappointed for conceding five goals today.
CB: Dan Burn – 6/10
Burn was a strong presence in the air but couldn’t cope with the pace of the Man City attacks.
LB: Matt Targett – 5.5/10
He tried his best to keep things solid inside his half and managed to engineer one key chance going forward.
CM: Sean Longstaff – 5/10
Longstaff struggled to get into the flow of the game and produced a lackluster display at the centre of the park.
CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 6/10
The Brazilian talent anchored the midfield well and made one good chance in the final third.
CM: Joelinton – 6/10
He worked his socks off but offered very little in the opponent’s half.
RW: Miguel Almiron – 6/10
Almiron offered decent protection for his teammates at the back but was quiet in the attacking end of the field.
ST: Chris Wood – 6/10
Wood tried his best to bully the Man City centre-backs but struggled to get too many looks at goal.
LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – 7/10
He made a few excellent runs with the ball but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
Substitutes:
RB: Kieran Trippier – 6/10
He struggled to get into the game.
ST: Callum Wilson – 6/10
Wilson never looked like he would score.
RW: Jacob Murphy – N/A
He made one good chance in the opposition half.
