Liverpool faced off against Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to earn maximum points on the road. The Reds made a decent start to the game but conceded the opening goal in the 13th minute when Nathan Redmond scored with a great strike. However, Takumi Minamino equalised for the Merseyside outfit in the 27th minute with a powerful finish from a tight angle. Both sides went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.
Liverpool pushed on in search of the winner in the second half and finally found it in the 67th minute courtesy of Joel Matip’s fortunate header. The contest ended with the Reds securing a narrow 2-1 win away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against the Saints.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6.5/10
The Brazilian keeper made one good save in the game and was quite tidy with the ball at his feet.

Gomez got beaten too easily in the lead-up to Redmond’s opener. However, he produced a decent display on the right flank before he had to go off with an injury.
CB: Joel Matip – 8/10
He produced a solid display at the back and ended up scoring a fortunate winner in the second half.
CB: Ibrahima Konate – 7/10
Konate dealt with mostly everything that the Saints threw at him and did enough to restrict them to just one goal.
LB: Kostas Tsimikas – 7/10
Tsimikas delivered a few inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box and performed his defensive duties really well.
CM: Harvey Elliott – 7/10
Elliott kept possession moving quite well and had some bright moments in and around the Southampton penalty box.
CM: James Milner – 7.5/10
The experienced midfielder fought for the ball really well in midfield and did a decent job as a right-back in the second half.
CM: Curtis Jones – 6.5/10
Jones kept the ball moving with conviction but slowed the tempo of the game down at times during the contest.
RW: Takumi Minamino – 7.5/10
The Japan international scored the all-important equaliser for Liverpool with a ferocious strike. However, he was mostly quiet in the second half.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 7/10
Firmino linked up play well with others around him but failed to register a goal tonight.
LW: Diogo Jota – 7/10
The Portuguese attacker threatened the opposition goal in moments but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.

He added more energy and control to Liverpool’s midfield.
ST: Divock Origi – 6/10
The Belgian didn’t get a sniff at goal.
