Manchester United welcomed Brentford at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they looked to earn all three points at home. The Red Devils made a bright start to the game and got their noses ahead in the ninth minute courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ excellent finish. Man United sat on their lead well and went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.
Cristiano Ronaldo doubled the home side’s advantage from the penalty spot after the hour mark. Just 11 minutes later, Raphael Varane killed the game off as the contest finished with the Mancunian giants earning a well-deserved 3-0 victory at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the clash against the Bees.
GK: David de Gea – 7.5/10
The Spanish keeper made a few crucial saves at the back and did well to keep the opposition at bay during the 90 minutes.
RB: Diogo Dalot – 7.5/10
He performed his defensive duties well when needed on the defensive end of the field but failed to make an impact in the final third.
CB: Victor Lindelof – 7/10
Lindelof made a few crucial clearances at the back and did enough to secure a clean sheet.
CB: Raphael Varane – 8.5/10
Varane earned the ball a couple of times and cleared his lines when required. The Frenchman also got his name on the scoresheet in the 72nd minute.
LB: Alex Telles – 8/10
He was strong in the air and gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half. Telles has also got an assist to show for his efforts.
CM: Scott McTominay – 7.5/10
McTominay anchored the midfield really well and made a couple of interceptions. He was also lively in the Brentford half.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 7/10
The Serbian talent protected his backline well but offered very little in the final third. He was replaced in the 70th minute.
RW: Anthony Elanga – 7/10
Elanga caused some problems for the opposition and did well to secure an assist for setting up Fernandes’ goal.
CAM: Juan Mata – 6.5/10
The Spaniard showed some sparks of his brilliance but didn’t do enough to score.
LW: Bruno Fernandes – 8/10
Fernandes was a real threat in the opponent’s half and scored an early goal which gave his team a good platform to go on and secure the win.
ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – 8/10
The Portuguese striker caused all kinds of headaches for the Brentford centre-halves and kept his composure to convert his spot-kick in the second half.
Substitutes:
CM: Fred – 6/10
He added more energy to Man United’s midfield.
ST: Edinson Cavani – 6/10
The veteran striker made one key chance in the final third.
CB: Phil Jones – 6/10
Jones deserves credit for keeping things solid at the back in the latter stages of the game.
