In a recent report, the Sun claimed that Manchester United are leading the race for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to bring him to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window. It has been mentioned that the Red Devils have reignited their interest in the Serbian midfielder as he refuses to renew his contract in Rome.
Milinkovic-Savic’s Impressive Campaign This Season
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is having an impressive campaign this season as the 27-year-old has taken part in 53 matches, netting 11 goals and picking up 14 assists across various competitions.
The Serbia international has proven himself to be a capable midfielder in the final third based on his average of 2 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the final third after making 81.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football.
With a 1.91m tall frame, the midfielder has won 2.9 aerial duels out of an average of 4.7 per game (stats via whoscored).
A Decent Fit For Manchester United?
The Lazio midfielder can create space with ease and is adept at getting a few shots in on the target. The Serbian playmaker can even orchestrate clear-cut goal scoring chances for his teammates through his efficient passing.
Milinkovic-Savic remains versatile as he can switch between holding midfield position or the centre attacking midfield, and can also feature on the left-wing. He would be a potential replacement for Paul Pogba as the French midfielder looks to exit Old Trafford at the end of this season.
Manchester United would be wise to move in for the Lazio midfielder in the upcoming transfer window. At 27, the midfielder still has his best days ahead of him. As the Red Devils struggle to perform consistently, Milinkovic-Savic could bolster their attack profoundly.
We could see the interim manager Ralf Ragnick bring in the Lazio star in the offseason as he could help the Red Devils challenge for a UCL place along with the Premier League title next season.
