Liverpool entertained Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield earlier today as they focused on securing a positive result at home. The Reds made a sloppy start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the third minute when Pedro scored from close range. The Merseyside outfit netted the equaliser in the 24th minute when Sadio Mane scored with a tidy finish. Both teams went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.
The home team looked tired in the second half but still managed to find a way to win courtesy of a couple of late goals from Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. The contest ended 3-1 in favour of Jurgen Klopp’s men. However, they missed out on the Premier League title due to Man City’s excellent 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the match against Wolves.
GK: Alisson Becker – 7.5/10
The Brazilian keeper made some decent saves and did enough to restrict the opposition from scoring more than once.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8/10
The English full-back created some excellent chances for others around him and was a real threat in and around the Wolves penalty box.
CB: Ibrahima Konate – 6/10
Konate made a poor error in the lead-up to Neto’s early goal. However, he produced a solid defensive display in the second half.
CB: Joel Matip – 8.5/10
He was strong in the air and made two key chances in the final third. Matip was dominant inside his half and ended the game with an assist to his name.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7.5/10
Robertson got himself into some dangerous areas in the final third and scored a good goal late in the game to ensure maximum points for his team.
CM: Naby Keita – 6.5/10
He passed the ball well but lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 6.5/10
The Liverpool skipper slowed the tempo of the game down at times but produced a decent performance overall at the centre of the park.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 8/10
The Spanish ran the show for Liverpool in the first half and picked a great assist for setting up Mane’s goal. He got injured and had to be replaced at half-time.
RW: Diogo Jota – 6/10
He was mostly ineffective during his time on the field. Jota got replaced in the 57th minute.
ST: Sadio Mane – 8.5/10
Mane caused all kinds of headaches for the opposition centre-backs and scored the all-important equaliser for the Reds with a composed finish in the first half.
LW: Luis Diaz – 7.5/10
He showed a few glimpses of his brilliance but didn’t do enough in the end to register a goal.
Substitutes:
CM: James Milner – 6/10
Milner offered very little in the second half.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 8/10
The Egypt international was a real threat in the final third and scored a good goal from point-blank range to put his team ahead on the day.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 6.5/10
He was poor on the ball at times but secured an assist late in the game.
