In a recent interview with Sky Sports (via The Mirror), former Manchester United custodian Mark Bosnich urged Liverpool to move in for Red Bull Leipzig winger Christoper Nkunku. Bosnich said, “I was going to say that’s the $64million (£51million) question but it might actually cost a bit more than that. I was thinking about that today and watching from the Champions League, there’s the boy from Leipzig I think, Nkunku.
“He was somebody who really stood out for me. I know Leipzig dropped down into the Europa League and were knocked out in the semi-finals by Rangers but he was exceptional and that’s what I was thinking about today when I was thinking about if Mane leaves, what to do and that’s the one that came to mind for me.”
Nkunku’s Excellent Run Of Form In German Football
Nkunku had a brilliant campaign at Leipzig as he managed to put in several eye-catching performances for the German outfit in the final third. The 24-year-old has scored 35 goals and picked up 20 assists in 51 appearances for his current employers this season across all competitions.
The two-time France international has proven himself to be a valuable contributor in front of the opponent’s goal based on his average of 2.4 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 81.8% in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Snap Nkunku Up This Summer?
Nkunku has decent pace under his belt and can make some impressive runs with the ball in the final third. He has transformed himself into a prolific finisher in front of the opposition goal during this campaign. The French speedster can even chip in by picking up his fair share of assists up top.
Someone of Nkunku’s quality will be a decent signing for the Reds as he will be an ideal replacement for Sadio Mane who is facing an uncertain future at Anfield with his current Liverpool contract set to run out at the end of next season.
Hence, Jurgen Klopp should think about snapping Nkunku up ahead of the new campaign as he will enhance Liverpool’s attacking department considerably this summer.
