In a recent report, the Daily Mirror stated that Barcelona are showing interest in recruiting Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are looking to land a new left-back and have identified the Spanish talent as a potential option this summer.
Reguilon’s Rollercoaster Season In North London
Reguilon is having an up and down season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he has struggled to be consistent at times for Spurs over the past ten months. The Madrid-born sensation has registered two goals and three assists in 31 matches for the North London outfit this season across various competitions.
The 25-year-old has given a good account of himself at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.6 clearances, 0.8 shots, 1.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession relatively well from the left flank, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 78.7% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will Reguilon Add To Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Team?
Reguilon can do a little bit of everything down the left wing. He can be a decent defender at the back when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the field.
The Spanish sensation can create some promising chances for his teammates in the final third and can even chip in by scoring the odd goal from time to time. He is primarily a left-back but can even fill in as a left-sided wide player if required.
A left-back of Reguilon’s skillset will be a good signing for Barca as he will add some healthy competition for Jordi Alba who is in the twilight years of his playing career at the Nou Camp. At 25, the Spaniard’s best years are ahead of him, so he could make an immediate impact at Barcelona.
We can expect the Tottenham talent to add more quality to Xavi‘s first team. Thus, the Catalan outfit should try everything they can to bring Reguilon back to Spain when the transfer window commences later this year.
