Gavi’s Impressive Rise At The Nou Camp This Season
Gavi is having a productive campaign in Spanish football as he has put in several mesmerizing displays at the centre of Xavi’s midfield. The 17-year-old has made 44 appearances for the Spanish club this season, scoring two goals and picking up six assists in various competitions.
The talented teenager has caught the eye by averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.9 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 89% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Barcelona Set To Offer Gavi A New Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?
Gavi is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He is a technically gifted footballer who can create some excellent chances in the final third. The former Real Betis youth player is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if required.
The Spanish whizkid just has to find a way to improve his goal-scoring numbers if he wants to establish himself as a top performer in La Liga.
At 17, Gavi is a generational talent, so it makes a lot of sense for Barca to offer him a new, lucrative deal so that they can keep hold of him for the long run.
Gavi is also enjoying his football under Xavi‘s stewardship at the Nou Camp. Thus, the gifted midfielder can benefit from staying at the Catalan club and continue fighting for a regular starting spot in Xavi’s starting XI. All in all, Barca’s decision to tie Gavi down to a fresh contract will be a good move for both the player and the Spanish club ahead of the summer transfer window.
