Aston Villa experienced a tough campaign in the Premier League as they struggled to find consistency all season which concluded in them securing the 14th spot in the league standings. Since the appointment of Steven Gerrard as the West Midlands club’s new boss, the Villans have shown some flashes of what they are capable of but they have got a lot to improve on next season.
The Midlands giants secured the signings of Ashley Young, Danny Ings, Emiliano Buendia and Leon Bailey last summer before going on to recruit Philippe Coutinho (on loan), Calum Chambers and Lucas Digne in January.
Ashley Young – 7/10
Since arriving from Inter Milan on a free transfer last summer, Young has done well to establish himself as an important squad player for the Villans this season. He has made 25 appearances for them, picking up two assists in all competitions.
Danny Ings – 6.5/10
Ings has blown hot and cold all throughout this campaign but deserves some praise for scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 31 matches for Aston Villa during this campaign.
Emiliano Buendia – 6.5/10
Buendia has experienced an up and down season at Villa Park as he has registered four goals and six assists in 37 matches for the Villans.
Leon Bailey – 5/10
On his day, Bailey can be an explosive attacker out in the wide areas. However, those days have been few and far between for him since his big move from Bayer 04 Leverkusen. He ended the campaign, scoring just one goal and picking up two assists for Aston Villa.
Calum Chambers – 6/10
Chambers has served as a decent defensive option in Steven Gerrard’s squad after sealing a permanent move from Arsenal in January. However, a lot more will be expected of him next season.
Lucas Digne – 8/10
Digne has been a real asset in Gerrard’s starting XI as he has produced some eye-catching displays at Villa Park over the past few months. The Frenchman has been a solid presence at the back and deserves a pat on the back for bagging four assists in 16 appearances for the Villans this season.
Philippe Coutinho – 8/10
Coutinho arrived on loan from Barcelona at the start of this year. His form was so good that Aston Villa decided to sign him permanently earlier this month.
The ex-Liverpool talent has scored five times and secured three assists in 19 matches for the Midlands side during this campaign.
