In a recent report, Calciomercato claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni. It is believed that Spurs are hoping to land the Italian centre-back during the summer transfer window.
Bastoni’s Impressive Form At The San Siro
Bastoni is experiencing a solid campaign in Italian football after producing a series of dominant displays at the heart of Inter’s backline. The 22-year-old has found the back of the net once and grabbed three assists in 38 matches for the Italian outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The 11-time Italy international has been a rock at the back in Milan based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per game in Serie A. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution as evidenced by his pass success rate of 89.6% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Is Bastoni A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Bastoni is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger quickly to make some crucial interceptions at the back. He is proficient at clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
Standing at 1.90m, the Italian powerhouse can often outmuscle the opposition attackers in the air and also thrives at playing his way out from inside his half.
A centre-back of Bastoni’s quality will be a good addition to Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte‘s squad ahead of the new season. He will be an upgrade over Eric Dier, Joe Rodon, Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming seasons.
All in all, Bastoni will be a decent option for Spurs to consider in the summer as he could help the North London outfit challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
At 22, the future is quite promising for the Italian centre-half as long as he can continue improving with each season. Plus, he has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and won’t have any trouble performing for Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League if they end up securing a top-four place in the Premier League this season.
