In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Newcastle United are set to rival Leicester City for Paris Saint-Germain forward Arnaud Kalimuendo who is currently playing on loan at Lens. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move for the French striker this summer.
Kalimuendo’s Impressive Loan Spell With Lens
Kalimuendo has caught the eye with his performances at the Estadio Bollaert-Delelis during this campaign as he has been responsible for putting in a few productive displays in the final third. The Suresnes-born talent has banged in 11 goals in 34 matches for the French outfit this season in multiple competitions.
The 20-year-old has performed well to average 1.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 85.6% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kalimuendo Bring To Newcastle United?
Kalimuendo excels at generating a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He has already begun to prove his worth as a decent finisher in the attacking end of the pitch. Kalimuendo is primarily a centre-forward but can even function as a left-sided wide player if required.
The French whizkid can even make some dangerous runs with the ball up top. He has also been tidy with his overall link-up play in the final third but there are some doubts over whether he would be able to handle the physical nature of English football.
At 20, Kalimuendo will only get better with each season. Therefore, the Magpies will do well to lure him to St. James’ Park when the transfer window commences later this year.
The Suresnes-born playmaker has been a breath of fresh air in French football which makes him a good option for Eddie Howe to consider this summer. We can expect Kalimuendo to bring some goals and depth to Newcastle‘s frontline. However, the French marksman might need time to adjust to life in the Premier League if the Tyneside outfit manage to get him on board ahead of the new season.
