Dubravka Gets 8, Joelinton With 7 | Newcastle United Players Rated In Their Loss Vs Liverpool

Last updated on: May 7, 2022

Newcastle United welcomed Liverpool at St. James’ Park earlier tonight as they hoped to grind out a result at home. The Magpies made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 19th minute when Naby Keita scored with a composed run and finish from close range. Eddie Howe’s men struggled to come up with a response and went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.

Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second half as Newcastle ended up losing the contest by a 1-0 scoreline.

Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle player performed during the clash against the Reds.

GK: Martin Dubravka – 8/10

The Magpies keeper made a lot of crucial saves to keep his team in the contest. However, he couldn’t do much about Keita’s quick feet and finish in the first half.

RB: Emil Krafth – 7/10

He gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field and made one good run down the right flank.

CB: Fabian Schar – 6/10

Schar tried to keep things solid at the back but struggled to keep the Liverpool attackers quiet. He got replaced at the hour mark.

CB: Dan Burn – 6.5/10

He did a lot of last-ditch defending and was strong in the air as well.

LB: Matt Targett – 7/10

CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 7/10

The Brazilian talent got stuck in with some solid tackles and made multiple runs with the ball from midfield.

CM: Jonjo Shelvey – 7/10

He had some lively moments in the opposition half and tracked back to defend when needed against his old club.

CM: Joe Willock – 5.5/10

Willock struggled to get a foothold in the game and got substituted in the 66th minute.

RW: Miguel Almiron – 6/10

He worked hard but failed to influence the game in the final third.

ST: Joelinton – 7/10

The Brazilian attacker made a couple of decent runs with the ball and did his fair share of defending.

LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – 6.5/10

He had a few bright moments in the Liverpool half but was wasteful with his decision-making up top.

Substitutes:

CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 6/10

He kept things tidy inside his half.

ST: Chris Wood – 6/10

Wood didn’t get a sniff at goal.

RW: Jacob Murphy – N/A
