In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Manchester United are showing interest in Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen. It is understood that the Red Devils are eager to acquire the services of the Denmark international but could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of him.
Eriksen’s Fruitful Loan Spell At The Brentford Community Stadium
Eriksen is having a decent spell with the Bees in the Premier League as he put in a couple of decent displays at the centre of Thomas Frank’s midfield. The 30-year-old has made four appearances for Brentford since joining them back in January, scoring one goal and securing one assist across all fronts.
The Middelfart-born talent has caught the eye by averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.5 key passes, 2.3 crosses and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball after making 77% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Is Eriksen A Good Option For Man United?
Eriksen can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park when he is playing well on the field. Despite his recent health issues, he is a top talent who knows the Premier League well from his successful time at Tottenham Hotspur.
The experienced Denmark international remains an excellent crosser of the ball and can still chip in by scoring or creating the odd goal. Thus, it makes sense for Ralf Rangnick to take a gamble on Eriksen if they are confident that they can get the best out of him over the next few years.
At 30, the Danish midfielder might still have some good seasons left in him to play at a high level. Plus, he has won a lot of trophies in his playing career and might have the right mindset to taste some success at Old Trafford. With all things considered, Eriksen could be a good, short-term option for the Red Devils to pursue when he becomes a free agent at the end of this campaign. At the very least, the former Inter Milan sensation will increase competition for places within Man United‘s match-day squad.
