Recent reports from Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Witness) state that Manchester United managerial target Erik Ten Hag is keen on signing Juventus centre-forward Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window as he looks set to add more firepower to his attacking options.
The report states that the Red Devils are the latest top European club to have joined the race for the Argentine attacker’s signature. It further adds that Ten Hag ‘greatly appreciates the quality and class’ of Dybala, and he has referred his name to Manchester United officials. The Dutch tactician would play a vital role in securing his services on a free transfer.
As per the newspaper, a meeting took place between Dybala’s agent and the Premier League club earlier this week. The objective was to ‘get to know each other, understand their respective projects and begin to see if there can be positive developments’.
There has been no concrete advancement in the chase despite all the talks so far.
Inter Milan and AC Milan are also interested in securing the services of the 28-year-old forward.
Dybala’s 2021/22 Season In Numbers
Paulo Dybala signed for Juventus from Palermo for a fee in the region of €40 million in the summer of 2015. Over the course of the last six seasons, the Argentine international has featured 286 times for the black and whites, netting 113 goals and 48 assists across all competitions.
Even this term, he has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board – averaging 3.8 shots, 1.5 key passes, 1.6 dribbles, 0.7 crosses, and 2.5 long balls per 90 minutes in the Italian top-flight (calculated across 24 appearances). Furthermore, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.30, he has been one of the best players on his side thus far.
Capable of playing as a centre-forward or a secondary striker, the former Palermo man would help solve Manchester United’s crisis in the attacking department.
The Perfect Signing For the Red Devils?
Marcus Rashford has been in terrible form over the past few months, whereas it’s highly likely that Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard will depart the club in the summer. Juan Mata’s contract expires at the end of the season, while Mason Greenwood remains suspended until further notice after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
Given the circumstances, Manchester United need some fresh recruitments in the attacking department if they intend to strengthen the present squad – and Dybala fits the bill perfectly. At 28, he has won multiple trophies for Juventus, and a free transfer minimises any sort of risk associated with the deal.
Hence, the board should go all in to secure La Joya’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.
