Recent reports from The Sun state that Liverpool are keen on signing highly-rated Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay in the upcoming transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks set to add to his defensive options.
The 18-year-old defender has been identified as a potential backup option to first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold after some encouraging scout reports.
Ramsay was reasonably confident in addressing all the transfer talks.
“It’s all been good because growing up it’s all you want to do — play first-team football, then hopefully get a big move one day in the future.
“It’s all about learning and you’ve got to keep calm. You can’t let it get to your head. If you do you can end up thinking you’re better than you are and not playing how you can.
“At one stage it seemed like there was something on Twitter or in the papers almost every day. I tried not to get caught up in it because that’s the worst thing you can do.
“It’s good hearing all that stuff, but I’ve just got to produce on the pitch, then everything else will play itself out. At the start of the season I felt I was doing really well, then I got my injury and came back.
“I’ve done alright, but not what I was at the start of the season. On deadline day I was up in Dingwall because I had a game the next day against Ross County, so that was what I was focusing on.
“I’m young and it’s my first full season, so I’m trying to build on that and get more confidence.”
Having come through the ranks at Aberdeen, Calvin Ramsay made his first-team debut about a year ago, in March 2021. With five-goal contributions so far this season, the youngster has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe due to his attacking style of play.
The three-times Under-21 Scotland international has managed to put up some decent numbers on the board this term – averaging 0.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, 0.6 shots, 1.9 key passes, 1.8 crosses and 1.4 long balls per ninety minutes in the Scottish Premiership (taken over 22 appearances). The stats show that the 18-year-old would thrive in Klopp’s system that prioritises attacking fullbacks as the prime creators.
How Will He Fit Into Klopp’s Plans?
The report from The Sun further states that Liverpool are looking to get rid of Neco Williams, who is currently on loan at Fulham. His departure would free the slot for a backup wing-back – and that’s where Ramsay comes in. Nonetheless, knocking Trent Alexander-Arnold off the perch would take something special, so the youngster will have to be ready for the fight.
