In a recent edition of the Ranks Podcast, journalist Dean Jones mentioned that Leeds United are showing interest in Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest. It has been claimed that the Whites are keen on landing the United States talent.
Dest’s Inconsistent Form At The Nou Camp This Season
Dest is having an up and down season with Barca as he has struggled to find consistency with his performances in La Liga. The Almere-born sensation has made 31 appearances for the Catalan outfit during this campaign, securing three assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye at times but has struggled to be productive in the opponent’s half. Dest is averaging 1.5 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game in La Liga. However, he deserves a lot of credit for being accurate with his ball distribution after completing 92.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Leeds United Boss Jesse Marsch Move In For Dest This Summer?
Dest is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some driving runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The 17-time United States international excels at playing his way out from the back but needs to improve his end-product in the attacking end of the field. He is primarily a right-back but can even play as a left-back or fill in as a right-sided wide player if needed.
Someone of Dest’s skillset will be a brilliant signing for Leeds United to pull off this summer. He will definitely make Jesse Marsch‘s squad stronger in the coming seasons.
A change of scenery could do Dest’s confidence a world of good. Thus, it makes sense for the Whites to move in for him if Marsch is confident about getting the best out of the full-back at Elland Road. At 21, Dest has the potential to become a future star for the West Yorkshire club as long as he continues to take strides towards improving himself over the next few years.
