Manchester City welcomed Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium earlier this evening as they looked to secure maximum points at home. The Mancunian outfit made an electric start to the game as they took the lead in the fifth minute courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected goal. However, Diogo Jota equalised for Liverpool just seven minutes later when he found the back of the net from close range. Man City regained their lead in the 36th minute when Gabriel Jesus scored with a tidy finish as Pep Guardiola’s men went into the half-time break 2-1 up on the scoreline.
Jurgen Klopp’s men made a quick start to the second half and managed to net the equaliser in the 46th minute via Sadio Mane’s composed finish. Both teams fought tooth and nail in search of the winner but the contest finished 2-2 after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the clash against the Reds.
GK: Ederson – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper made a couple of solid saves but will be disappointed for failing to keep a clean sheet in both halves.
RB: Kyle Walker – 6.5/10
He made a few important interceptions at the back but failed to keep track of Mane’s run in the lead-up to Liverpool’s equaliser in the second half.
CB: John Stones – 6.5/10
Stones cleared his lines when required and was tidy when playing his way out from the back.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
The Man City centre-back kept a good defensive shape inside his half but won’t be pleased after allowing two goals during the 90 minutes.
LB: Joao Cancelo – 7.5/10
The Portuguese full-back performed his defensive duties quite well and deserves credit for keeping Mohamed Salah quiet. He was also quite lively going forward and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10
He was full of energy and running at the centre of the park and worked hard on the defensive end of the field as well.
CM: Rodri – 6.5/10
Rodri had some bright moments but struggled to get a foothold in the game.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5/10
The Belgian midfield ace was the best player on the field at times and was fortunate to score the opening goal with his deflected strike.
RW: Gabriel Jesus – 8/10
He was a constant menace in the final third and got his name on the scoresheet with a great finish in the 36th minute.
ST: Raheem Sterling – 6/10
His pace caused a few problems for the Liverpool defenders. However, he wasted a golden chance to find the back of the net early in the game.
LW: Phil Foden – 6.5/10
Foden linked up play well with others around him but never got a sniff at goal.
Substitutes:
RW: Riyad Mahrez – 7/10
He caused a few headaches for the opposition but failed to hit the target in the dying embers of the game which would have won the game for Man City.
LW: Jack Grealish – N/A
The English talent hardly had any time to make an impact.
