In a recent report, The Sun revealed that Arsenal are planning to offload Nicolas Pepe this summer. It is believed that the Gunners are hoping to cut the Ivorian wide player loose at the end of this season.
Pepe’s Campaign Of Mixed Emotions In North London
The 26-year-old has been a sporadic presence in Mikel Arteta’s match-day squad during this campaign but has done well to produce a few eye-catching displays on the right flank. Pepe has participated in 20 matches for the North London giants this season, scoring three goals and grabbing five assists on all fronts.
The France-born talent played a key role for the Gunners in cup football based on his average of 2.7 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game in the EFL Cup. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 86.9% of his attempted passes in the League Cup (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Let Pepe Go?
Pepe has got the pace to trouble the opposition defenders and can even create some decent openings for his teammates when he is playing well on the field. The gifted talent is primarily a right-sided wide player but can even fill in as a striker down the middle if required. His pace and versatility have made him a good squad player under Arteta’s stewardship this season.
The Ivory Coast sensation is an excellent dribbler with the ball and can also strike the ball with power and precision from long range. However, things have not fallen in place for him at the Emirates Stadium thus far since his big move from LOSC Lille back in 2019.
Hence, it makes sense for both the player and the North London club to part ways with each other during this summer transfer period.
At 26, Pepe has got his best years ahead of him, so a change of scenery could do his confidence a world of good in this off-season. Arsenal could also reinvest the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad ahead of the new campaign. With all things considered, Mikel Arteta would be wise to let Pepe leave when the transfer window reopens later this year.
