Newcastle United will lock horns with Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Thursday night as they try to pick up a win on their travels. The Magpies managed to grind out a 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend which will keep them in high spirits ahead of this game.
Eddie Howe will probably set his side up in a 4-3-3 formation and could name an unchanged first XI for this clash. We can expect Chris Wood to lead the line for the Tyneside giants up top.
4-3-3 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Defence
Martin Dubravka will feature in goal for the Magpies after he conceded one goal in his last league outing. Fabian Schar will operate alongside Dan Burn at the centre of Howe’s defence as they focus on keeping the Saints at bay throughout the 90 minutes.
Emil Krafth could retain his place at right-back in the absence of Kieran Trippier, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury. Matt Targett will probably get another shot to impress from the left-back position.
Paul Dummett, Jamaal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo will offer cover for the defensive positions on the Newcastle bench.
Midfield
Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock will anchor the midfield for Newcastle as they try to make life difficult for the home team at the centre of the park.
Sean Longstaff and Bruno Guimaraes will be named on the bench as they wait for their chance to catch the eye in the second 45 minutes if required.
Attack
Ryan Fraser will operate as the left-sided wide player while Jacob Murphy hopes to impress from the right. As mentioned earlier, Chris Wood will lead the charge for the Magpies up top. The towering Newcastle centre-forward needs a goal to boost his confidence after failing to find the back of the net versus the Seagulls in his last appearance.
Allan Saint-Maximin and Dwight Gayle will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the final quarter of the game if required.
