In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that West Ham United are set to step up their pursuit of Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall. It has been revealed that the Hammers could face competition in the form of Brentford and Everton in the race to land the English centre-back.
Worrall’s Impressive Run Of Form In The English Championship
Worrall is having a solid campaign at the City Ground after putting in a series of dominant defensive displays at the heart of Nottingham’s backline. The 25-year-old has registered one goal and one assist in 31 matches for the English outfit this season across all fronts.
The three-time England Under-21 international has caught the eye by averaging 1.8 tackles, 2.0 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per game in the EFL Championship. He has even distributed the ball relatively well from the back after making 77% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Is Worrall The Right Choice For West Ham United?
Worrall is a solid tackler of the ball and can spot the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t take too many risks when clearing the danger inside his half.
The English sensation excels at playing his way out from the back. Hence, he will be a good fit for David Moyes‘ style of play at the London Stadium.
The Hammers can definitely benefit from signing an up-and-coming centre-back like Worrall who would add some much-needed depth to their defensive department. He could even serve as an ideal, long-term replacement for Angelo Ogbonna as the Italy international has been sidelined for a significant chunk of this campaign due to a serious injury.
At 25, the Nottingham Forest star is about to enter his prime, so West Ham can expect to get the best out of the defender if they can find a way to bring him on board this summer. All in all, Worrall will be an excellent choice for the East London club to pursue when the transfer window reopens later this year.
