West Ham United locked horns with Liverpool at Anfield earlier this evening as they looked to secure a positive result on their travels. The Hammers made a decent start to the game but conceded the opening goal in the 27th minute when Sadio Mane scored with a good finish from close range. David Moyes’ men went into the half-time interval 1-0 down on the scoreline.
The East London outfit tried their best to get back into the game in the second half but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. The contest ended with David Moyes’ men suffering a hard-fought 1-0 loss away at Merseyside.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the match against the Reds.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 7/10
The Polish keeper made a few solid saves at the back but couldn’t do much about Sadio Mane’s finish in the first half.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
Dawson cleared the danger many times during the game and even made a few important blocks at the back.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 7/10
The French defender made a lot of crucial clearances inside his half and kept the Liverpool attackers frustrated for most of the game.
CB: Aaron Cresswell – 6/10
Cresswell made two important interceptions but struggled to cope with Mohamed Salah’s pace at times out on the wide areas.
RM: Ben Johnson – 7/10
He earned the ball back a few times and made one good opportunity in the final third.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7/10
Soucek anchored the midfield with conviction in the absence of Declan Rice. He even had a couple of lively moments in the final third.
CM: Nikola Vlasic – 6/10
He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game and produced a lackluster display at the centre of the park.
LM: Pablo Fornals – 6.5/10
The Spaniard caused a few problems for the Liverpool defenders but didn’t do enough to find the back of the net.
RW: Jarrod Bowen – 6/10
Bowen engineered a couple of decent chances in the opponent’s half but had to come off early in the second half due to injury.
ST: Michail Antonio – 6.5/10
The English striker worked hard and caused a few headaches for the opposition centre-backs by running in behind them. However, he was toothless in front of the Liverpool goal.
LW: Manuel Lanzini – 7.5/10
He made some exciting runs with the ball but wasted a glorious chance to get his name on the scoresheet.
Substitutes:
LW: Said Benrahma – 6/10
Benrahma failed to get a foothold in the game.
CM: Mark Noble – 6/10
He brought some calmness and experience to West Ham’s midfield.
CM: Daniel Chesters – N/A
He came on for the final few minutes of the game.
