In a recent tweet, The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas revealed that West Ham United have the option to re-sign Alphonse Areola on loan for the upcoming campaign. It is believed that the Hammers could choose to keep the French goalie, who is currently playing on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, for another season.

Areola’s Impressive Loan Spell At The London Stadium
Areola has been an important member of David Moyes’ match-day squad during this campaign and deserves credit for putting in some solid displays in goal for the Hammers. The 29-year-old has made 14 appearances for the East London club this season, conceding 11 goals and securing seven clean sheets in all competitions.
The Paris-born sensation has done well to average 1.3 clearances and 5.3 long balls per game in the EFL Cup. However, he needs to be more accurate when distributing the ball from the ball after completing 61.6% of his attempted passes in the Carabao Cup (stats via whoscored).
West Ham Have The Option To Re-Sign Areola On Loan: Good Move For Both Parties?
Areola has proven himself to be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks for West Ham during his loan spell in England so far. He has got decent reflexes that allow him to make a few solid saves at the back.
The French custodian is also a good handler of the ball and doesn’t mind coming out of his lines to collect crosses and loose balls inside his penalty area. He can even clear the danger when the opposition attackers are closing him down.
Areola has served as a great squad player at the London Stadium over the past eight months. At 29, the Frenchman is playing at his prime, so it makes a lot of sense for West Ham to keep him at the club for another season.
With all things considered, the Hammers should think about activating the option to re-sign Areola. It will be a good move for both the player and the East London club as they look to collectively bring some success back to West Ham next season.
