In a recent report, Foot Mercato offered an update on the future of Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson who is not ruling out a move away from Villa Park this summer. It is understood that the Villans midfielder fits the profile that Nantes is looking for ahead of the summer transfer window.
Sanson’s Growing Frustrations In English Football This Season
The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating campaign at the West Midlands club as he has struggled to earn regular playing minutes in Premier League football. Sanson has only made ten senior appearances for the Villans this season, picking up one assist in the process across all competitions.
The Saint-Doulchard born talent has seen most of his game time come off the bench but has done well to average 1.2 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 76.2% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard Let Sanson Leave?
Sanson is a tough-tackling midfielder who can earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He can even make some intelligent runs with the ball towards the opposition penalty area and doesn’t mind producing a tireless shift for his side.
At 27, Sanson is enjoying the peak years of his playing career, so it makes sense for the player to opt for a change of scenery in search of greener pastures this summer.
The Villans need to cut off some of their deadwood so that they can build a strong team under Steven Gerrard. Therefore, it makes sense for Aston Villa to let Sanson leave during the summer transfer window. The Villans can even use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad. All in all, Gerrard would be wise to cash in on him ahead of the new campaign as it will be a good move for both the player and the West Midlands club.
