In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) offered an update on Manchester United and their pursuit of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. It has been mentioned that the Uruguay international wants improved terms if he is to extend his stay with Barcelona which could open the door for the Red Devils to snap him up in the summer.
Araujo’s Solid Campaign In Spanish Football
Araujo has been an important member of Barca’s matchday squad this season and has done well to make himself a regular starter at the Nou Camp. The South American sensation has played in 30 matches for the Catalan outfit during this campaign on all fronts.
The 23-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.0 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back after making 89.4% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Araujo Bring To Manchester United?
Araujo doesn’t shy away from making a tackle and can sense the danger quickly to earn possession back on the defensive end of the field. The Uruguay international usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and can even make some solid blocks at the back. Furthermore, the talented defender is proficient at playing his way out from his half and can even chip in by scoring the odd goal from time to time.
A centre-back of Araujo’s skillset will be a good acquisition for Man United as they look to build a strong squad for the new campaign.
We can expect the Barca talent to bring more depth to the Red Devils‘ defence and even help them the Mancunian giants challenge for some top honours in the coming seasons.
At 23, the Uruguayan defensive ace has his best years ahead of him, so Man United can expect to make the most of his services if they can find a way to lure him to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens at the end of this season.
