In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Newcastle United for Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij. It has been mentioned that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the Dutch centre-back with Inter willing to let him go for €20m this summer.
De Vrij’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season
The 30-year-old has proven his worth as a dominant presence at the heart of Simone Inzaghi’s defence. De Vrij has featured in 31 matches for the Italian club this season, scoring one goal in the process across all fronts.
The Dutch sensation has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game in Serie A. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 92.1% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Is De Vrij The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
De Vrij can use his strong 1.89m frame to dominate the opposition in the air and usually times his tackles well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half. He excels at scanning the danger quickly and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. The Dutch sensation can also be a potent threat from indirect set-pieces.
We can expect de Vrij to add a lot of quality to Antonio Conte’s defence and might even help the North London outfit challenge for a major trophy or two in the coming seasons.
With all things considered, de Vrij will be a great fit for Tottenham as he will be an upgrade over Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez at the London club. At 30, the Inter star still has a few good years left in him to play at his best. Thus, Spurs would be wise to try everything they can to land him this off-season.
