In a recent report, L’Equipe mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Arsenal for Stade Rennais youngster Lesley Ugochukwu. It is understood that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the French midfield ace.
Ugochukwu’s Impressive Rise In French Football
Ugochukwu has enjoyed a majestic campaign as he has produced a run of solid performances for Rennes at the centre of the park. The 18-year-old featured in 17 matches for the French outfit this season, scoring one goal in the process across all fronts.
The French youngster has made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he is averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.3 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. However, he has been tidy when distributing the ball from midfield, based on his pass success rate of 88.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Is Ugochukwu A Prospect For The Future?
Ugochukwu can get stuck in with some solid tackles and is proficient at offering decent protection for his teammates at the back. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well and doesn’t mind working hard for his side in midfield. Ugochukwu has got the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday.
Thus, recruiting the French whizkid will be a massive coup for Spurs as they look to strengthen their squad for the future. He is primarily a defensive midfielder who can also fill in as a centre-back if required.
Antonio Conte has got enough managerial experience to get the best out of Ugochukwu if the North London club managed to get him on board in the summer. He might serve as an ideal understudy to Pierre-Emile Højbjerg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
