In a recent interview with ESPN Brazil, Philippe Coutinho revealed that he is enjoying his life at Aston Villa. Coutinho said,
“I am very happy.
“Of course, I was very keen to get back to the Premier League, I’m at a great club which makes me very happy.
“I’ve always admired him (Gerrard) a lot. For me, it was an honour to have played with him. Now having him as a coach, with the experience he passes on, the training sessions have been strong and demanding.
“He has big ambitions, I’m happy to be here and I hope to respond to what he expects by helping our team achieve our goals.
“For me, it was an honour to be part of his career as a player, and now, as a coach, I feel even more honoured.
“I have always had this relationship of admiration and respect. I wish I had the opportunity to work with him again. He is a guy who is very open to all the players and has a lot of influence in the group.”
Coutinho’s Impressive Form At The West Midlands Club Recently
Coutinho has enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Villa Park since sealing a six-month move from Barcelona back in the January transfer window. The Brazil international has found the back of the net twice and grabbed two assists in six appearances for the Villans this season in various competitions.
The 29-year-old has been a joy to watch of late based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better when distributing it in the attacking end of the field as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 74.1% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Sign Coutinho Permanently This Summer?
Coutinho remains one of the best playmakers in European football as he has got the vision to cut open the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third.
The Brazilian talent can even strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He has so far done well to steer clear of injuries. Thus, it makes sense for the Villans to make an attempt to land Coutinho permanently in the summer.
The South American attacker has already shown that he can perform at his best under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard and could help the West Midlands club push for a European place in the coming seasons.
